Accessibility statement for Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service

This accessibility statement applies to the Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service website (www.notts-his.nhs.uk).

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. In order to ensure that all of our visitors can use our website, these pages aim to meet Level-A and Level-AA standards of WCAG 2.2. This means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser functionality
  • zoom in up to 400 per cent without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • interact with most of the website using a screen reader (including recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We also try to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

If you have a disability, AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.

How accessible is this website

This website currently partially conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, which was published in October 2023.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible including:

  • WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard - Areas of the website are unable to be navigated using a keyboard only.
  • WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships - Incorrect HTML markup.
  • We have little control over the accessibility of third-party content including Google Maps and YouTube videos. We cannot guarantee that these tools are WCAG 2.2 compliant.
  • Some pages and document attachments are not written in Plain English.
  • Many documents are not fully accessible including missing text alternatives and missing document structure. We are looking into making all our documents more accessible.

This is not a comprehensive list as we are still identifying some accessibility issues.

We are committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

A third-party accessibility audit has been completed on this website and recommendations have been made for improvement.

We are actively working to address these issues as part of an ongoing programme to improve the accessibility of this website.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018, if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Third-party content

Our website contains some third-party content that we do not have control over and are not responsible for the accessibility of this content, but we endeavour to work with the third party to improve its accessibility. This may include:

  • links to non-Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust websites
  • content or functionality embedded in, but not a part of our website. This includes;
  • content hosted on other websites, such as social media sites

What we are doing to improve digital accessibility

We want our website to offer the best experience possible for all our users. In addition to our plan to fix known issues, we continue to work on website content and structure.

  • We are actively working to address issues as part of an ongoing programme to improve the accessibility of this website.
  • Training everyone that publishes to the web in creating accessible content.
  • Providing guidance to services on creating accessible multimedia content.
  • Moving away from PDF documents to web pages where possible.
  • Conducting regular automated and manual checks of our website and making required corrections and improvements.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’).
